The bombing of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Wisconsin is just the latest attack on women's health. The Republicans have denounced the attack while continuing to call for the defunding of Planned Parenthood.

Salon's Joan Walsh and Ruth Conniff of The Progressive join Ed to discuss the onslaught of attacks on women's health issues.

They arrested and charged a guy in the bombing. I think they should tell the public who this guy is - what he does, organizations that he frequents, why he this is ok, and who helped or encouraged him. Probably won't happen. Same with the guy that got arrested on his way to assassinate a doctor and wreak havoc on a PP clinic in Madison last year when the dumb --- gun discharged in a hotel room on his way to the clinic. What is the deal with these crazies. I don't belief this loner crap anymore.

Romney thinks he knows what women want. Yesterday he said we were concerned about the debt because his wife told him so.

Today he said we wanted someone to get the economy going again.

Anything to keep from dealing in reality right Romney??? Like the bold and beautiful Ryan budget that you just cannot get enough of. The one that promotes the slashing and burning of the middle class. Anyone and I mean anyone that would vote for this fool is a bigger fool!

This is making me physically nauseous. This country is becoming the laughing stock of the world.

The Bomber in Wisconsin, was probably some psycho who listens to Faux News, or Limbaugh or both, or has been listening to Sanotrum, and Romney. Both of whom have been spouting the same garbage as Limbaugh for months. Then, Sanotrum makes a statement that he doesn't support the violence, but in another breath says that he still wants to defund Planned Parenthood. Listen, Mr. you cannot have it both ways! Women in this country are well aware that there is a war on women, and their rights, occuring, and you cannot spin your way out of it. Sorry Ann Romney, your Husband is a cooked goose, and will not be able to fix this. He is a Republican and now owns what his party has been doing for many, many months now! It cannot be ignored what these Republican Legislators have been up to in all of these states. Women won't forget any of this come election time. I know I won't!!!!!!

Rob,

There is now an organization known as Vati-Leaks. That is where I found out that the Milwaukee Archdiocese had filed bankruptcy and that there had been hundreds of church workers involved in child abuse, many whose whereabouts are now unknown.

The reason they had to file bankruptcy is the number of child sexual abuse lawsuits filed against the church in the diocese.

Ireland has only just begun to uncover all the horrific incidents. There has been a systematic code of silence both in the US and all over the world to silence voices and protect the abusers and the reputation of the church rather than solve these horrible crimes and put the perpetrators behind bars.

Meanwhile....across the water: A tidbit from The Miami Hearald:

DUBLIN -- The Roman Catholic Church in Ireland said Monday it's investigating how a priest offering a presentation to parents on their children's upcoming Confessions instead ended up showing them a computer slideshow of gay porn.

The leader of Ireland's 4 million Catholics, Cardinal Sean Brady, said the priest involved insists he didn't know how the explicit images got on the memory stick he intended to use for his Powerpoint presentation to families at St. Mary's Primary School in the Northern Ireland village of Pomeroy.

Brady said the priest, the Rev. Martin McVeigh, "has stated that he had no knowledge of the offending imagery" and is helping an internal church investigation.

McVeigh said other church officials used the memory stick and he wanted an investigation "so that what happened can be legitimately explained."

Haven't we had just about enough of the good Christian/ anti planned parenthood bullshit? You need a chainsaw to cut through the hypocrisy.

Ho hum. The federal investigation will turn up a lone crazed bomber and overlook and exonerate the "Christian" meetings that he regularly attended promoting violence against womens health care for the past 30 years. I would like to see the local police riot team push "pro-life" protesters, client/employee stalkers, and want-to-be assassins away from health care facilities and spray them with pepper spray. Just once, a local chapter of operation rescue should be arrested, tried, convicted, and sentenced for conspiring to deny 1/2 the citizens of Constitutionally protected civil rights. The IRS should review the church status and tax these phony stealth GOP anarchist cells at the corporate rate without the tax breaks and subsidies. Maybe then we can look forward to a day when harassing and assaulting women seeking medical services, targeting heath care providers for assassination, and bombing health care facilities will become a shameful thing of the past - even for the pro-life, pro-death penalty, pro-war hypocrites.

Another sad radical situation. It shows how the GOP/Tea Party is in disarray by bowing to the worst of its party. It has gotten so out of hand that it appears that Romney may turn to Paul Ryan as a possible VP candidate. At this point, our fears are more about domestic terrorists like the one/ones who bombed the Planned Parenthood in Wisconsin. The genie cannot be put back in the box unless the mainstream GOP members denounce these acts of violence. They appear to be having a problem at doing just that because they are more concerned about being elected than really dealing with the hardcore issues that are plaguing their party. The monies from such libertarians as the Koch brothers have caused the GOP to move so far to the right that this group has narrowed its supporters to a very small segment of the population who also has a desire to take this country back to the time of the wild, wild west where everyone was for themselves and therefore their protection was their gun. It will be interesting when the GOP/Tea Party looses greatly to the Democrats this November, if the true leaders of their party, if there are any left, will reclaim the party as a conservative party but not so exclusive that most of its potential members are not accepted in. For democracy to exist, we need two parties but not if one is so radical that it has to turn to bombing and other criminal acts to promote its ideology.

Pat, Grand Lake, CO: I agree with you very strongly. We also could add that the U.S. downsizes the active duty force while increasing a more sustainable enlargement of the Guard and Reserve. Soldiers and their families could do some of their first tours on active duty then at mid-career they transition to a Guard or Reserve unit to finish out their military careers for their second decade. These Guard and Reserve units would be kept in a high state of readiness with many members going to work everyday. The families could buy a house in their home area. Soldiers could start going to college full time to get a jump on their future careers while serving in the Guard and Reserve. The active forces would be training units for new recruits while the Guard and Reserve. We would from time to time call up a Reserve unit for training or for a short rotational deployment overseas. But most overseas military bases would be shut down except the ones absolutely vital to our country's security.

The money spent on the military would stay in America. Military families would get to stay in a local town with a reasonable house being paid for by their parent's service to the nation. This system is workable and sustainable. If there were a national emergency we would still have large numbers of trained reservists and Guard soldiers to call up to well equipped units with professionally trained officers and NCO's. This is a sustainable military system that would keep the peace while still allowing America to be engaged if necessary. The neocons won't like this strategy however, because this system would preclude any long term occupation of foreign countries. I think this military system of greatly expanded Guard and Reserve units, would be like an insurance policy with affordable rates would work. What do you think?

Ron Mariposa: Good point about the Oakland massacre by a gunman. I don't know if this shooter had a 30 round clip or not or even a semiautomatic. Go check the local California papers tomorrow. I'm sure you will find a semiautomatic behind this massacre. The SWAT team needs a 9mm Gloc with a 30 round magazine NOT your local sportsman hunting deer. So seven more people get to die and three more maimed in part because of the rules pushed by the NRA. I guess ALEC and the NRA are just fine with mentally disturbed people being able possess semiautomatics with large clips so they are able to shoot off a hundred rounds plus in a few minutes before any cop can even figure out what is going on or where its happening.

All of this means more massacres in our country courtesy of the policies of the NRA. Good luck trying to make illegal mental illness or insanity. These two conditions will always find a certain number of human victims wherever we go. But we can take limited gun control measures that could reduce these tragedies in the future like the assault weapons ban. What will the total cost be to the public for this latest Oakland rampage? Can the taxpayers of Oakland afford the $10 million or $20 million or more for a tab that will result over all from this latest semiautomatic/firearm massacre? Can you say SOCIALIST SUBSIDY FOR THE NRA/ALEC GUN POLICIES BY OUR TAX DOLLARS?
