Another fine author passed away today, Ray Bradbury, author of Fahrenheit 451. I haven't even heard it mentioned on the news. Pity Scott Walker gets to upstage him. Bradbury borrowed typewriters at the library for 10 cents an hour to finish his manuscript. Almost reminds me of the JK Rowling writing story ideas on a diner napkin while basically living out of her car.

When will we as a society ever learn that some of the most influential people of our time were NOT the wealthy 1 percent???

Rob, George Orwell wasn't just ahead of his time, he saw the future, and it really did begin around 1984, while it was morning in America and everyone was sleeping late.

I read "1984" in high school, in the 60's, I thought it was interesting, a good read, but never in my immature brain did I ever imagine it happening here. My reason was that Americans were just too smart and would never believe something when they could see with their own eyes it wasn't true. Guess I read that book before November, 1963, because that's when I began to realize we weren't always hearing the truth, and those were the days of Walter Cronkite and Huntley Brinkley!

TAX THE RICH, the truth and nothing but the truth! Good night and good luck. That's the way it is.

This may be a whine but I'm sorry... I will not be sending any more $ to compete with big money; that is financial suicide. My $100. to support Barret did NOTHING against Walker or his backers, but it was a lot for me.

If the SCOTUS has opened the floodgates, there it is. Obama and his brain trust ought to know, if it takes money to win, and they don't have it, it's up the THEM to set the stage for the election. Up to now, I have only shaken my head at the so called conservative moderate Dem leaders who IMO are corporate hustlers too. They all rely on corporate money.

It used to be that corporations would hedge their bets and support both sides. Now big money sets the agenda for gov't. It is against the interests of the people. Unless Obama shows us a strategy for acheiving real progressive goals, how to defeat big money interests, it is not only unrealistic to expect voters to finance their campaigns, it is immoral.

Time for Dems to get real and start standing up for the people, and not with one hand behind their backs, open to corporate $. If that takes them out of the game, then it's about time we changed the rules.

Take it from somebody who's been at it a while -it takes time, you can't get change overnight and sometimes it just has to reach everybody personally before they are ready to do anything about it.

But didn't we win the Senate?

"You don't always get what you want but sometimes you get want you need"

Anyway this just proves we were right again about money in politics and its corrosive effects on democracy. It makes animals of us all when many folks livelihood is dependent on them stabbing us in the back.

It is truly sad, that this once great nation is no more. We are no longer the greatest nation in the world. It takes a united people to be great. We have now a more devided people than ever before. I see it more devided than it was prior to the civil war.

Never in my life have I heard the hate, the insults or the disrespect that I have been reading on various blog sites. I've seen families broken by this divide. I've seen hate and racism comming from people I've know for 30 years. I don't see it getting any better any time soon.

Chris Mathews had some interesting stats on his program last night. 40% of republicans believe Gov't should take care of those that can't take care of themselves. The other 60% would allow people to starve to death, no medical help, etc. Sadly, listening to the right, I believe it's closer to 10%. I don't believe a "moderate" republican has a chance at remaining republican. They've moved too far right. I believe we've just seen the beginning. I see everything that history warned us about, unfolding. If we don't change directions very soon, the '30's will look like a picnic. Unfortunately, I don't see or hear people with what it's going to take.

Pat, Thats a point I have been harping on for some time. Corporate subsidies for billionaires far outpaces Social programs. At least twice as much.

"Could a media system, controlled by a few global corporations with the ability to overwhelm all competing voices, be able to turn lies into truth?" - George Orwell, 1984

George was ahead of his time.

I really don't want to whine about this recall, but it really is about the money. The rich are running the country and setting the message. The overpaid "news" media has fallen in line, with only a few exceptions. America will sell off good public works to private industry and we will be Chile, or Russia, or any ot the other "shock doctrine" countries. The real corporate welfare queens have won and they really do live like the queens and kings we have allowed them to be.

TAX THE RICH, and I vow to fight for this no matter where I am!
