I know the biggest gun toten people here are on the right and some are far far right. One person said it is a way to stop crime as the bad guys know the good guys have guns and they point to states that have laws like texas and florida having lowered their crime rates. The problem is if I remember right the last figures show crime rates have lowered nation wide. I may be wrong but that is what I remember. I know about the racism as I see it in my wife's family. Here in california every problem is a mexican or black problem from crime to welfare according to her family and according to them the whites are the only ones that produce anything of worth. If you live in rural california like I have for over half of my life I see how RED these areas are and how racist they are, and yet just like the south and other areas it is said in private or in under tones.
Thanks for the answers as I found what you said about the news and talk shows that the gun people listen to and watch are ones that the people quote here about guns and crime. I am fed up with these people as they are so paranoid the government will take away their guns, that the UN will be the world power and we wont be a country, but just a state in a world order, and the list goes on and on. You all may see a new post on facebook or else where about the emblem for the Obama campain. The blue is the cresent moon of islam, the white is the islam world law, and the red strips are the symbol of the USA under the rule of islam law. This is how the far right radical is now saying our president as a radical and muslum who wants to install a muslum state and that he isnt a true american and a phony president.

Being from the south I will attempt to answer your question. It is not any one thing that causes this. I see a half n half thing going on here. Half of them are just stereotypes from the old west that never really evolved. Guns and hunting will always be at the forefront of their brains. But then there is a younger crowd that is deeply distrustful of the government, reads alot of alternate news websites, and is caught up in the new world order fear phenomenon. They see the militarism of the local police, all the TSA search and sieze stuff going on, police raids on houses of innocent people in which they got the wrong house and people are killed, even innocent children. There are also alot of women now who regularly watch the crime shows, see woman after woman disappear from the streets never to be seen again. So there is also a fear culture among women too. The gun dealers love to play to all these interest groups because they make a boatload of money off of all of them.

Not just in AL i think this is much of the problem in WI too. In white men without upper education, me i think its their struggle to keep a "class" below them so they are not the bottom--the blacks are.

yeah, I have a couple guns too, but I don't carry them back and forth to work, shops,etc. I keep them around the house for protection at home. I would not get a permit and carry a gun around. If anything terrible happens and you have to use it to defend yourself, it's a lot harder to justify the shooting if you are not on your own property. It's highly probable you could wind up in prison for a self defense shooting.
I think some of the incessant gun toten' talk is conservative white men letting their imagination carry them away. You know, it's the same thing we feel when one of their kind gets in the Whitehouse. You start thinking about all the evil things they will do. They're going to immediately stop your mothers social security payments and she's going to go broke, move in with you and your going to have to help her with healthcare payments, food, and everything else.
When we get the Whitehouse, their first thought is "they're going to take away our guns because liberals hate guns." Of course we're liberals and both of us have guns but they don't worry about facts.

He didn't earn the Whitehouse because you are supposed to be smart to get that job. There wasn't anything smart about W. He was a prize idiot.

I wonder if I can ask a quick question. I asked on facebook why it seems so many people are paranoid and want to carry guns. I had a bunch of post on my facebook about the about carrying and carrying concealed so I just wanted to question why. I didnt get an answer to my question, but did get all the poop about crime, and second amendment and how we all must be prepared to fight if robbed or if there is a mass shooting. No one answered by question except saying people listen to the news and I wonder what news stations they listen to.. My thing is I wont live in fear of bad guys, terrorist, or government. I own guns and know how to use them, but I just feel the reason I have heard about carrying guns is that people are paranoid in my view., I wonder what others think, and I believe in the use of force if needed, but I dont carry and feel there really is no need to carry a gun as to me it means I am just a paranod as the people who live in fear of everyone...

The Boston Globe reported, "What has been found is a copy of the original 1894 marriage license." Sarah Smith, Elizabeth Warren's great great great grandmother, according to reports, the electronic listing of the application said "she is 1/32nd Cherokee."
People, at that time, weren't proud to call themselves Cherokee. If anything, they often lied and tried to hide it. This isn't something anyone would make up in 1894. Why is this being questioned?
If the licensing agency accepted the application, they are the final authority. It doesn't matter if Elizabeth can prove her great great great grandmothers heritage. Her marriage license says Sarah Smith was Cherokee. If it says she is, then she is. UNLESS YOU CAN PROVE SHE IS NOT, SHUT UP. SHE HAS AN ORIGINAL OFFICIAL DOCUMENT FROM 1894 THAT SAYS SHE IS. SHUT THE F UP SCOTT ASSWIPE WALKER.
