Unemployment Rate Drops to 7.8 percent
Posted by Big Eddie | Saturday, October 06, 2012

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

When the unemployment rate is high, the conservatives have been all-too-eager to take it as face-value and tout it as evidence of the President's failure to create jobs. But now that the rate has fallen below 8 percent, suddenly, the numbers aren't right. Watch it.

I knew the trolls would try to use the "what about population growth?" argument. I heard it on Fox Noise the last time there was a story about declining unemployment.

Armed with a Masters degree in Business Indoctrination, the professor's lesson begins with a mistake - actually the number of job seekers increased last month and the median household income has not changed in 30 years - since trickle down was implemented. Gee, 120,000 new jobs per month just to keep up. I wonder if anybody told that to Bush, Cheney, Paulson, and the job "cremators" that were burning through 6 times that amount in the 8 monthly job losses after the stocks plunged to the high 6000 range. Did they think that sending 57,000 factories to Asia would improve the job numbers? How about a link to legislation proposed by the Tea Bag GOP Congressional "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs" Choir led by "Crybaby" Boehner to create jobs in America or the Senate Norquist Barbershop Quartet filibuster on jobs for returning Iraq/Afghanistan veterans. Forget about using the legislation eliminating the EPA as job creation - the last thing America needs is more Exxon/Mobil, BP, Shell, and Conoco jobs to dirty the air and water or "frack" mother earth. It's just part of the conspiracy of the closet hedge fund manager, Big Bird, and the Sesame Street floor traders that have destroyed our economy at President Obama's direction.

" they must be devastated by the good news"- miblow

Yeah... less people are looking for a job and unemployment has gone down

Yeah... less people found work then last month

Yeah... Median household income after inflation fell to $50,054, a level that was 8 percent lower than in 2007

Only an low information voter like you would think this is good news. Keep watching the Ed show... he can't afford to lo$e a viewer.

Wow incredible awesome news...

Miblow.. how many jobs a month do we need just to keep up with population growth???

Hint.. It is higher than 114,000 per month! Yeah... you got mail!

The economy needs at least 120,000 jobs per month just to keep up with population growth.

I can't imagine how disappointed the "I hate my government" GOP must be. With all the work they put in to destroying America so they could get rid of President Obama and hand over the reins of government to a compulsive liar, they must be devastated by the good news. An endless stream of filibusters to block Senate anything, the Boehner/Cantor House that voted to repeal the Affordable Health Act more times than they can count on their dragging knuckles, a GOP party that endorses state rape or any other punitive act to "judge" and defame others, and a majority of the extreme court justices that can't tell the difference between a person and a corporation. I hope the Republican Party of Lincoln, Roosevelt, Eisenhower, and Reagan returns to the American reservation one of these decades. In the meantime, you go President Obama and keeep up the great work in saving and renewing our economy - in the face of unprecedented GOP obstructionism.

Well if you listen to the Conservative media, the numbers are all faked. 'Staged for the election' blah blah. The fear mongers just don't want any positive news on the economy, period. It's incredible, it's unpatriotic. The whole reason for the doom and gloom righties in Congress sitting on their ass for four years was to make the President fail, then say he wouldn't work with them in a Bi-partisan manner. They had an epic fail with Bush, and by God they want the Dems to have an epic fail too. They have done everything in their power to make it so.

What Obama seems so reluctant to do to the frustration of the left, is talk about anything he HAS accomplished. He needs to quit looking hang dog with the talk of how far we still have to go, and focus on a high stock market, the latest unemployment figures, the salvation of GM, an American icon, getting out of Iraq, winding down Afghanistan, bagging Bin Laden, an improving housing market, making banks pay, etc. You better get a little more upbeat like your wife Mr. President, and tune out the incredible negativity of the right in the home stretch of this campaign.

Everybody take a deep breath and keep looking at that electoral map, it tells the story.

www.electoral-vote.com Read all the other stories on there too, quite good info.

Scottymac, oh yes, how I do remember that phenomenon of the terror alerts. Wasn't it Chertoff that kept getting a "gut" feeling???

Fargo, nothing would please me more than to see Mr. Biden take a step back from the podium and announce to Mr. Ryan that he is yielding the next 10 minutes of his time for him to explain the math in his budget. I cannot wait. I have read that budget, there is not enough math in it for it to take 5 minutes much less 10. Ryan is FOS saying it would take too long. I've seen 5th graders that could do better math.

I would also like for him to explain how his "boss" plans to create the 12 million jobs that he claims he is going to be able to do.

How about we start with American Airlines??? The whole mess is about the airlines outsourcing their maintenance to foreign countries which not only is an outrage but a huge national security risk. Can you imagine, after 9/11, American Airlines who supposedly lost 2 jets to the "terrorists" deciding that outsourcing their maintenance to a foreign country is an ok thing?? Oh and this didn't start with Obama, it started during the Bush administration. For them to say that spilled coke caused the seats to come unhinged is just laughable on its face.

The GOP has so many things to answer for when it comes to American jobs. It's time they were confronted with all of it now before the election.

The good job numbers, of 118,000 jobs added for Sept, and the 3 year low, unemployment rate of 7.8% are indeed good news, with only 30 days or less before the election. It proves, once and for all that things are getting better. People are spending money again. It is welcome news indeed! Its not what some folks out there wanted to hear. It is great news! Lets hope that Octobers, numbers, turn out to be just as good.

Like Ed said, good news considering Obama gets NO help from republicans! -with them and their secret meeting in 1-09 and they've been fillibustering and obstructing

EVERYTHING since then, they told us up front their main goal is not whats best for the country but to harm Obama with no concern about the potential impact on the country or the people!

Pretty simple to me, they doth protest too much me thinks...

Remember when the GOP would change the terror alert status every time that John Kerry got a bump in the polls!
