Mourdock criticized over rape, pregnancy comments
Yahoo Political News - | Wednesday, October 24, 2012

Republican Richard Mourdock, candidate for Indiana's U.S. Senate seat, participates in a debate with Democrat Joe Donnelly and Libertarian Andrew Horning in a debate in New Albany, Ind., Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012. Mourdock said Tuesday when a woman is impregnated during a rape, "it's something God intended." He was asked during the final minutes of the debate whether abortion should be allowed in cases of rape or incest. (AP Photo/Michael Conroy)Top Republicans were slow to embrace tea party-backed Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock after he ousted a longtime GOP senator from office. Though he eventually won their support — and money — Mourdock could see both fade after telling a live television audience that when a woman becomes pregnant during a rape, "that's something God intended."
