Nearly 8 months after the November election, the Minnesota Supreme Court ordered that Democrat Al Franken be certified as the winner of the state's long-running Senate race.
The high court rejected a legal challenge from Republican Norm Coleman, whose options for regaining the Senate seat are dwindling.
Justices said Franken is entitled to the election certificate he needs to assume office.
Democrats with 60 Votes Franken's victory over Coleman gives Democrats 60 Senate seats, the critical number needed to overcome Republican filibusters.
Coleman Concedes Coleman conceded the election hours after a unanimous state Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that Franken should be certified the winner.
312 Vote Win In doing so, Coleman pulled the plug on a bitter election that was decided by 312 votes out of almost 2.9 million cast.
Al Franken Comments Franken said, "When you win an election this close, you know not one bit of effort went to waste."
Franken said, "The way I see it, I'm not going to Washington to be the 60th Democratic senator, I'm going to Washington to be the second senator from Minnesota."
