Postal Service Announces Significant Changes Posted on 3/2/2010
The U.S. Postal Service is estimating $238 billion in losses in the next 10 years if lawmakers, postal regulators and unions don't give the mail agency more flexibility in setting delivery schedules, price increases and labor costs.
The Postal Service experienced a 13 percent drop in mail volume last fiscal year.
The Postal Service lost $3.8 billion last year.
Postmaster General John Potter is asking for flexibility to make chages such as ending Saturday mail deliveries.
Potter is also suggesting closing some branches and expanding its use of self-service kiosks in grocery stores and other popular retail spots.
